When Mari Llewellyn co-founded Bloom Nutrition in 2019 alongside her husband, Bloom CEO Greg LaVecchia, she set out to make wellness feel approachable for women.

Today, the brand is best known for its Greens & Superfoods powder and its Sparkling Energy drinks, which have sold 500 million cans in just over two years. The range recently arrived in the UK, marking Bloom’s biggest international move yet.

Llewellyn also co-founded the media agency Pursuit Network and hosts the Pursuit of Wellness podcast, a weekly mix of expert conversations and candid solo episodes on fitness, mental health, and modern living.

We spoke with the British entrepreneur about building Bloom from the ground up, why small changes matter most, and what’s next for the brand.

What inspired you to create Bloom Nutrition?

Bloom was created from my personal transformation journey. After hitting rock bottom mentally and physically, I made major changes in fitness and nutrition with the help of my now-husband, Greg. At the time, I couldn’t find supplements that felt approachable. Everything was intimidating, masculine, and honestly not that enjoyable to use. So Greg and I decided to change that. Bloom products are functional, flavourful, and made with women in mind — the brand I wished had existed when I was starting my journey.

What product makes the best introduction to the brand?

It really depends on your goals, but the two products most people start with are our Sparkling Energy and our Greens & Superfoods.

Bloom Sparkling Energy is such an easy, delicious way to get a boost of energy with better-for-you ingredients, and it’s increasingly how new customers find us. Greens are what put Bloom on the map and are a brilliant way to support your overall daily wellness in just one scoop packed with fruits, vegetables, fibre, and calcium. Once people try them, they’re usually hooked.

What has been the biggest challenge or surprise in launching Bloom Nutrition?

The biggest surprise has been how quickly our community grew and how deeply they connected with the brand. We started as two people doing everything ourselves — sourcing suppliers, sampling products, designing labels, packing orders — and watching it resonate with so many women beyond what I ever anticipated was the greatest encouragement. As we’ve scaled, keeping that personal, community-driven feeling that people fell in love with in the first place is something we think about every single day.

What has been the biggest highlight?

Aside from seeing our brand deeply resonate with our community, watching Bloom Sparkling Energy grow the way it has in under two years has been surreal. It was our first foray into beverages, driven entirely by what our community was asking for. In the US it’s a top-five energy drink in mass retail, we’ve sold hundreds of millions of cans, and now it’s arrived in the UK — that kind of growth typically takes brands a decade.

That success has also allowed us to create some really special moments for our community, like our Bloom Treat Shoppe pop-up in New York and the Bloom Dream Diner takeover in Austin, Texas. We always make sure our community feels like VIPs, and these experiences are a big part of that.

What advice would you give to those wanting to launch their own wellness business?

One thing I’d say any brand can learn from, wellness or otherwise, is to be culturally relevant. Stay on top of trends, lifestyle moments, and what’s happening on social as it relates to your brand, and let that inform your campaigns, products, and content. At Bloom, it also helps that our team is mostly made up of people who fit our consumer profile and that we’re constantly in two-way dialogue with our community — which gives us a direct line into what they actually want next.

    What’s next for Bloom Nutrition?

The UK is our largest international expansion to date, and we look forward to expanding into more retailers and introducing more flavours and products while continuing to grow globally. The bigger ambition is to make Bloom the go-to wellness brand for the next generation of health-conscious consumers all around the world. We’re moving fast and we’re just getting started.

What does your daily wellness routine look like?

I’m a new mum to a baby boy, so my routine is always evolving. My morning walk is non-negotiable — and I love having my new best friend along for it. I also work out most mornings, usually weightlifting or Pilates, and after that it’s Bloom Greens, creatine, electrolytes, and more in what I call my ‘fancy water’. I eat protein-heavy meals throughout the day and, most importantly, I’ve learned that wellness is all about balance, especially in this new season of life.

What are three wellness products you can’t live without?

I enjoy starting my day with Bloom Greens, whether on their own or stacked into my morning routine alongside other supplements.

I’m also obsessed with my Jaspr Air Scrubber. I’ve put a lot of intention into creating a proper sleep sanctuary, and it filters out so many toxins.

My red-light therapy mask has become a daily self-care ritual. It’s brilliant for my skin, but I love it just as much for the excuse to slow down, meditate, and wind down before bed.

What’s the best wellness advice you’ve been given?

Start small. When I decided I wanted to make a change, I didn’t overhaul my entire life overnight — I just took baby steps. Progress, not perfection. It started with taking longer walks with my dog, Lulu, and swapping my morning Starbucks muffin for a high-protein breakfast. From there it cascaded into working out regularly, prioritising my wellness, and eventually creating Bloom. You’d be amazed what one small change can lead to.

What person or brand would you love to collaborate with?

Gymshark is a favourite UK brand of mine. We’ve already partnered on some social giveaways and events, and we work with a lot of the same creators. Now that Bloom is officially in the UK, I hope to do something bigger together.

Bloom is available at Healf and Amazon in the UK, and at Target and Amazon in the US. For more exclusive conversations with wellness founders, explore our interviews archive.
