The list also included navel oranges and naartjies — citrus fruits rich in vitamin C and flavonoids. The dietitian advised adding fruit segments to salads or eating naartjies before a main meal. According to the article, pectin in the peel and white part of citrus fruits may slow digestion and increase the feeling of fullness.

    Sardines and fermented cabbage

Naidu named canned sardines and fermented cabbage as two more foods. Sardines contain omega-3 fatty acids and calcium. The article also cites findings from a Stellenbosch University study, according to which regular consumption of oily fish combined with a balanced diet was associated with a lower body mass index among participants.

Fermented cabbage, including sauerkraut, is aing a small portion of such a product to dinner together with protein foods
